Design on the theme "God's Wisdom Provides New Understanding"
Explanation by the artist Winslow Craig.
The Cacique Crown is the headdress worn by the chief of an Amerindian village or community.
The “Benab” or meeting place of the villagers has a circular base culminating in a pointed apex.
The roof is thatched made from palm branches and is the central location for meetings,
discussions and assemblies. The artist’s view of the symbol was premised upon the Amerindian
central way of life.
The Cacique Crown is the Crown of The Godhead – the wisdom, light rays, love and togetherness
that are representative of the providence of God. God provides for His people when they assemble
under His leadership and in communion with Him and fellow believers. Under the “Benab” of His
grace we find unity one with the other. The differently shaped stick people joined in a circle
at the base of the Benab indicate God made us all differently, but together we represent His
diverse nature as we are made in “His image and likeness”.
The Cross, is seen by the artist as the unifying, reconciling symbol of Christ’s death and
resurrection for man to be with his God and Father. If we heed the Cross and all that it stands
for, our new understanding will see unity, togetherness, celebration of our differences and not
envy or hatred of those differences.
Kaieteur Falls
This waterfall is the landmark image of Guyana and is one of the most spectular waterfalls in
the world. The falls consist of a sheer plunge of 741 feet, followed by a short series of steep
cascades, which brings the total up to 822 feet. This is about five times higher than the more
well known Niagara Falls. It is located on the Potaro River in the Kaieteur National Park in
central Guyana. Up river from the falls, the Potaro Plateau stretches out to the distant
escarpment of the Pakaraima Mountains. The Potaro river empties into the Essequibo River
which is one the longest and widest rivers in South America. The entire Kaieteur National Park
area is located within one of the largest and most biodiverse rainforests in the world.
